The Sun glared as it fell behind the distant mountains. Reflecting from the land before it, in effort to keep about in a loosing manor. Off into the distance, the remains of a once renowned civilization was blending within the range, as if it were constructed right from it.
Moving towards this sight, as if it were a new found duty, is what I found for myself; my goal. This sight caught my eye for a reason. I feel compelled to take in the visual treasure of these remains.
As the Sun had forfeit to the Night, I found my way distinctively closer to my goal, for it would be met within the next day. Though something struck me as odd; looking towards these ‘remains’, I noticed that something wasn’t typical. From this distance, it seemed that the surroundings were covered with something that was emitting a dull light. As if it were alluring for those who sought it out. This kept my mind restrained during the hours that I should have used for rest.
Few hours had passed that I could recall, the Sun has returned to claim it’s place above. My mind continued to swirl about that curious sight, for I continued my travel. I reached my goal not long after breaking my camp, and the sight was breath taking. Moss had covered the protruding Sun baked stone structure which surrounded a stair walkway, for this must have been what was illuminating the sight from the night passed. It seemed to welcome me; something I couldn’t refuse. I entered the stairway, into what seemed darker than normal the further down I went. A black I have never seen before. Curious of the lacking moss, I continued down. Till I came to a flat, where I had lost all sense of direction.
Several moments pass, enough to enable me use of my previously paralyzed leg, I stand. Drawing my sword out of the ground, I look around at this world. How desolate it now felt, like my ‘connection’ with it was severed when I gained my Shadow back. Not wasting anymore time, I turn and head back to my, or rather, this world’s nearest tent.
Entering the tent, I make my way to the standing mirror, taking in a glance through it to see my actual world. I see my dog laying asleep on the ground, wisps of smoke gently lofting in the air, and a bag corner pushed behind my cooking pot. Grabbing the mirror side, I slip a glance to my arm where I was cut, to see it almost festering. The pain I now felt, while a relief, was uncomfortable: I had to get back now.
Continuing to look around, I began to realize that I had no sense of hearing anymore. Clapping my hands in an experiment, I confirmed this to be true. This as all coming so fast, it was difficult to understand all what is both going on and with what is affecting me. In the moment fails me when it comes to remembering, though it didn’t matter as much at this moment for what I can still perceive is the immediate threat to me.
Moving around slowly, I look down to check my footing to see that my feet were submerged in a dark cloud barely lingering over the ground. The lack of feeling making me question if I am standing secure or not. On this side, my tent seemed quite ominous. For a reflection to seem this different was something I never though possible. Then again, everything this day has been very different. My thought returning to me, I look around and move the door cover away to pee outside, to see something of a storm coming in. Almost as if the world had inverted.
Once the shadowy figure in the mirror uttered such words, I watched him turn away and exit the tent. I look back, and the cover became undone and dangled over the entrance as if I didn’t tie it up. I didn’t understand what was going on at this point, but I was surprised that I didn’t ache anymore… In fact, I didn’t feel anything anymore… No anguish, shock, no surprise, nothing. I began to worry a bit, but I attempted to cope with it as much as possible.
Putting the mirror aside, I lay back in my cot, aiming for a short nap. Only to realize I wasn’t tired. Turning repeatedly, I once again give up, but for a whole new reason this time; I couldn’t feel anything. I couldn’t figure which was worse, to not feel or to have an unexplainable ache. Rolling off my cot in frustration, I land on my knees, skinning both fairly but with no sense of pain.
Lighting a Candle next to my bed, I lay there staring up at the ceiling. Eyes wide open, a sense of aching within my body; a sense I couldn’t figure out or explain. I have laid here for hours, unable to drift into slumber; unable to easy into comfort. Giving up, I get off my cot to pace for several laps. Focusing on what my body is trying to convey to me. Several moments pass, and all I can figure is it is not my actual body… and wasn’t my mind…
Housed within your impregnable walls was once the proudest city in all of Valendia. Was the Great Quake that befell you a mere act of capricious nature? Or was it something more malevolent… more sinister… brought upon you by the Black Magicks that your wizards engaged in? And although the dying cries of your denizens have subsided decades ago, I can’t help but speculate if you are in fact, without occupants.
There are those who I know I shall find… and battle… for they are the reason that I’ve come here. But beyond that, I sense that to accomplish my quest I shall need to engage creatures that are wholly not human… if they are even from this world at all.
All my senses shall be overwhelmed… as dreams become reality. Calling into question my beliefs… my desires… and my greatest fears.
Yes, Lea Monde, I am sure that I shall need every inch of my strength… and all of my Riskbreaker training… and even some of your own Magick… in order to complete my task. But that is what I must do… for myself, and for all of Valendia!
As I continued to read the Diary memoir I found within my late Grandfathers belongings, I stumbled across several tales he never got the chance to tell me. Many very interesting, as if they reflected on another ‘reality’. The latest tale I read talked about the Far-Plane, or rather a place within the Far-Plane that functioned as the purification cycle. Something that absorbed tainted or extra energy present within each and every soul to enter the Far-Plane.
